Napolitano claimed a bright light came through her window and lifted her off the bed, into the sky, and into a large oval-shaped spaceship. Once inside, the creatures brought her into an examination room, where they put her on a table and inserted a strange metallic device into her nose.

According to Napolitano’s account, her experience defied conventional physics:

However, when directly questioned about the alleged incident, Pérez de Cuéllar issued an unequivocal denial, stating definitively that he had never experienced any alien abduction and expressing hope that his statement would conclusively end such speculation.

Here is a quote he provided through PBS, “I cannot but strongly deny the claim that I have had an abduction experience at any time,” he wrote. “On several occasions, when questioned about that matter, I reiterated that these allegations were completely false, and I hope that this statement will definitely put an end to these unfounded rumours.”

Critics have pointed out methodological concerns with the investigation, suggesting that favorable evidence was emphasized while challenging questions were not fully addressed.

The controversy continues, with Napolitano maintaining the authenticity of her experience.

She has particularly objected to the Netflix documentary’s portrayal of her in an unflattering light by Carol Rainey.

Rainey, Hopkins’s ex-wife, doesn’t believe Linda’s encounter with extraterrestrials.

In The Manhattan Alien Abduction docuseries, Rainey discusses how Hopkins hypnotized people as part of his work and says Linda did not act the way most people would under hypnosis.

She said that Napolitano mimicked other people who had been hypnotized on purpose, according to TODAY.com. “I felt that Budd had lost his objectivity,” Rainey said. “I don’t know if it was through the Linda case or earlier than that. I couldn’t respect what I heard him do to people who were vulnerable, very vulnerable. I had to try to protect other people from being tormented this way. I was sick. I was literally sick of the whole business, and the only thing I could think to do was to speak out about it.”

When Did Napolitano Reach Out To Budd Hopkins?

The connection between Napolitano and Budd Hopkins didn’t start with The Manhattan Alien Abduction.

The April before her abduction, Napolitano reached out to Hopkins via letter about an extraterrestrial encounter that she said she had experienced in the Catskills 13 years prior.

Soon after, she began attending Hopkins’ support group for abductees.

After this alleged first alien encounter, Napolitano claimed that she had a strange bump on her nose that, when x-rayed, showed a small foreign object.

Hopkins took this as evidence that aliens had put an implant into her nostril and said it was the “radiological smoking gun.“

However, the object had allegedly disappeared when a specialist later went to remove it.

Budd Hopkins, a prominent UFO researcher who Napolitano had already contacted in her alleged previous experience in the Catskill encounter, conducted what would become his most comprehensive investigation.
