Creepy Things Discovered on Baby Monitors
Have you ever seen something unbelievable on a video feed?
Can electronic devices pick up voices from a different dimension?
Could orbs be angels watching over our children?
What is up, Bizarros!? This week, we are diving into creepy occurrences discovered on Baby Monitors.
Baby Monitors & The Paranormal
You put your baby down, and naturally, you’re just dead tired. More tired than dead, that’s being a parent.
You’re underpaid, overworked, underappreciated.
Maybe you have a paranormal podcast and never missed an episode during the birth of your child. Who knows.
So, you sink into your favorite chair with your baby monitor next to you or on your phone, and just as your muscles and body relax, you hear your baby stir.
You listen intently, hoping it’s just a mid-sleep murmur. But it’s not.
Every bone in your body groans, and as you muster the strength to get up, you hear something unusual.
It’s a voice, but one that doesn’t belong to your baby.
It’s a different and much deeper voice.
Now you realize your energy and adrenaline have returned as you spring to your feet, bust into your child’s room, and turn on the light.
Only to discover that there were only two people there. You and your child.
Without any evidence of another presence. And now your baby is startled and crying; my condolences.
Creepy Baby Monitor Strange Occurrences:
There have been many strange occurrences and creepy moments captured by baby monitors and apps over the years.
Obviously, otherwise, this episode wouldn’t exist.
Just to state this quickly, night vision works by using infrared LEDs to illuminate a room so the camera can capture an image, even in low light or pretty much complete darkness.
This also gives a different and unique perspective, which can be viewed as a little unsettling and different than the normal vision we see with our naked eyes.
Also, some horror movies have popularized this.
One that immediately comes to mind is Insidious, which includes a couple of baby monitor scenes and scenes with entities around the child.
Additionally, Paranormal Activity, with its security camera and footage style, has potentially attributed to the heightened anxiety around paranormal occurrences and baby monitors.
That said, here are some of the creepiest things that have been reported:
Strange Voices: Parents have reported hearing disembodied voices coming through the monitor, often speaking to the baby or making nonsensical sounds. In some cases, these voices seem to be coming from outside the home, leading to concerns about privacy and security.
Hacking Incidents: There have been multiple instances where hackers gained access to baby monitors, allowing them to speak to the children or parents through the device. These incidents have raised alarms about the security of Wi-Fi-enabled monitors.
Unexplained Noises: Some parents have described hearing unexplained sounds, such as static, whispers, or even laughter, which can be particularly unsettling in the middle of the night.
Movement and Shadows: There have been reports of parents seeing strange shadows or movements in the baby monitor’s video feed, leading them to believe that something supernatural or sinister might be occurring.
Children Reacting to Nothing: Some parents have shared videos of their babies seemingly reacting to something unseen, laughing, or looking around the room as if they are interacting with an invisible presence.
Technical Glitches: Baby monitors can sometimes malfunction, leading to eerie static or distorted images that can be quite unsettling, especially in low light.
We’ve certainly seen what you would describe as orbs or things like that in the video.
We also had a scare, but really, it was just a glitch and lag in the camera.
Paranormal Instances Of Baby Monitors
Daily Mail 2019 – UK This is written by Eimear (ee-mur) O’hagan:
“Picture an autumn Friday evening when, after a typical bathtime followed by the donning of superhero pajamas, my four- and two-year-old sons are tucked up asleep in their bedroom.
Collapsing on the sofa, I glance at the baby monitor to see a now familiar, but still somewhat unnerving, sight in their bedroom: three small green specks of light flickering on the screen as they dance like fireflies above my snoring toddler’s cot bed.
I can guarantee that if I crept up the stairs and opened the door, there would be no sign of them.
They are only visible on the monitor’s screen and only ever appear when the camera is in the children’s bedroom – nowhere else in our home or at the hotels and friends’ and relatives’ houses where we’ve used it.
I first noticed them over a year ago, they don’t appear every night but we still see them several times a month.
Initially, I heeded my husband Malcolm’s pragmatic insistence that some sort of electrical interference or a fault with the monitor was to blame.
But that didn’t explain why we only saw the orbs at home and in that room.
Malcolm doesn’t buy into the paranormal as they come and refuses to ponder any sort of otherworldly explanation.”
So, Eimeer let it go until she saw posts on Instagram of others mentioning their unexplainable baby cam stories.
She made a post, expecting to be laughed off social media, about receiving strange baby camera stories. She was shocked at the response.
“A colleague recounted hearing a recording of a friend’s two-way baby monitor where the name ‘Steve’ was whispered over and over (the family in question doesn’t know a Steve).
Then, another recording of their child saying, ‘Someone’s at the window… They want to get in.’
Sarah, from Dartmoor, also contacted me. At pains to insist she was a sane, rational person, she told me about her six-year-old son’s bedroom in their barn conversion, which by day is an ordinary little boy’s room filled with Lego and storybooks.
But by night it seems to be a hive of ‘activity’.
‘This used to be my husband’s grandmother’s home – my son’s great granny.
His bedroom was her kitchen where she spent much of her time before she passed away and the building was converted,’ said Sarah.
‘Although he’s six, we still use a baby monitor because his room is a little way from ours, in case he is poorly or needs me in the night.
‘Since he began sleeping in there five years ago, we have regularly seen two light sources on the monitor – one is a round ball, the other more ribbon-shaped – that travel around the room at varying speeds.’
Sarah and her husband tried to find a rational explanation for the orbs but failed.
Then, Sarah says, ‘One night, after a glass of wine, I asked my husband if he thought it was possible that his grandmother was still present in the house.
He was skeptical, but we decided to test the theory.
Standing in the hall outside the room and watching the monitor, he asked, “Granny, is that you? If it is, can you show your presence?” Immediately, the round ball of light flashed across the room.
Then I asked, “Are you just checking on him?” and as the light hovered on the end of the bed, we saw an indent on the duvet as if someone was sitting there.
Another mother, Hayley, got in touch to tell me about her video monitor, which picked up three balls of white light hovering in the open doorway of her son’s room one evening.
‘I froze and tried to tell myself it was just a reflection of something, then the balls rose in the air, moved into the room and circled over my sons, then aged three and one, before whooshing towards the curtains and vanishing,’ says Hayley, a business owner from Cheshire.
‘It was over in less than 15 seconds. I bolted up the stairs to find the boys sleeping soundly, but the room had a very calm, settled feeling. I felt very shaken and upset.
‘I never saw anything on the monitor again, but after that, my youngest went through a phase of telling me there was a man in his room. He would wave at the ceiling and say he was waving goodbye to him.”
Eimear (ee-mur) ended up reaching out to a psychic, Amanda Tooke, about all of this.
She believes that infants and monitors are the perfect storm for paranormal activity because children are way more receptive to spirits and angels, and these entities commonly use electrical devices to communicate.
In response to Eimear’s specific situation, Amanda told her that orbs are often angels, so while spirits are loved ones who have passed, we all have an angel assigned to us, and that is what Eimear witnessed.
2024 – Ghost Arm
In February of 2024, a dad, Grave from South Yorkshire, discovered something terrifying on his baby monitor camera.
It appeared to be a ghostly hand reaching into his 9-month-old crib.
Apparently, it was the first night they had set up his camera and the first night his son had slept alone.
He tried to play out all the scenarios, thinking it may have been lag or maybe his wife, which was his initial thought.
But his wife denied that it was her, and the hand in the video feed was not wearing the Pandora bracelet that his wife always wore.
When my wife and I went on our first date, she saw this lady in my house. My brother, work, and school friends had seen her, and they all described her exactly the same. This could have potentially belonged to this woman.”

Winglamo’s Weird Baby Monitor Stories
This isn’t something I heard from my kid’s room, but it was something creepy heard over a baby monitor.
I did at-home care for a little while, and there was this one client I had a couple of years ago.
The lady I assisted had dementia, and she was just at the point where the good days were fading. We had a baby monitor in her room so we could hear when she was waking up.
I’ll go ahead and mention that we also had bells pinned to her sheets so that when she was trying to get up on her own (fall risk), we would hear the bells jingle. It was common to hear her down in her room talking to “that man.”
Asking “Who are you?” and “What is it?” to an empty room.
One evening, she and I were in the living room together by ourselves, and I heard the bells start jingling on their own over the baby monitor.
There was no ceiling fan, the AC/heat wasn’t running, and no windows were open.
I always had bad feelings in her house, with things like cabinets opening and one really creepy time where it sounded like footsteps coming down the hallway, which really scared me. I’m honestly glad I will never have to go into that house again.”

My uncle has a handful of stories, but I’ll tell one of the better ones.
One night, over the baby monitor, they heard whispering and what sounded like my cousin’s voice.
Strangely, though, they heard another voice that sounded like my grandma’s (she passed a year before this).
They go into her room and asked her who she was talking to, and she says “I was talking to grandma, she helped me find my doll.”
The doll WAS on the floor, but when they checked on her, it was in her crib.
lati4 Baby Monitor Incident
My family used to have a baby monitor set up at the top of our stairs.
One night, I am home alone as my parents are at my brother’s hockey game, and I am downstairs on the computer playing Roller Coaster Tycoon.
On this particular night, I heard a bang, nothing that was too startling, kinda sounded like a cupboard door shutting.
I paused my game and stared at the monitor. I then heard my front door unlock, the door didn’t open, I just heard it simply unlock. My heart dropped; it was eerily quiet.
About 10 seconds after the door unlocked, I heard a massive loud bang, like someone stomping on the hardwood upstairs, and the baby monitor went to loud static.
I immediately started crying and hid under the computer desk for an hour before my parents came home. When my parents got home, they asked me if I had let anyone in because the door was unlocked.
Nothing was taken, and then the baby monitor was still plugged in, and there were no signs of anyone else being in the house.
To this day, thinking about that night gives me chills.
lTL-momof2 Sleepless Night
So, when my son was born, my grandmother passed away 2 months prior. She was so very excited, and I loved her dearly. I was hit hard when she passed.
About 2 weeks after being out of the hospital, I put my precious man to sleep and went outside for fresh air.
We lived in an older house at the time, with very creaky floors and squeaky doors. If you were to go into that bedroom, you could hear it.
Sitting outside with my husband, all is quiet. Then we heard it.
This beautifully soft, sing-song voice over the baby monitor…..” hi Conner,” I froze.
I looked at my husband to verify that I was not crazy. I had him go into the bedroom first.
Nothing.
My stepmom was home at the time (I lived with my dad), and I asked her if she had gone in there. Nope. We would have heard this either way.
Checked in on him, sleeping soundly. Turning around to go out the door, a stick of deodorant flies across the room and hits the bedroom door.
I took my son immediately out of the room and slept with him on the couch. Nothing has happened since. Still creeps me out.
Redheaded Bug Story
One night, I’m sitting in bed, scrolling on my phone, and I start hearing my daughter babbling to herself on her baby monitor.
Now, it’s really late, like one or two in the morning. So I turn the picture on the monitor and see her standing up in her crib, facing sort of diagonally away from the camera. I can see her hands in front of her but only half of her face.
I can see her signing things like “nice” and “silly” and “fun” and oddly enough,”no”, “don’t like” and “bear”. Of course, being the good and loving mother I am (and really not wanting to deal with an overly sleepy baby in the morning), I get up to see what the heck she is doing.
When I get to her room, she is still standing up and signing/babbling towards the far corner of her room.
I ask her what she is doing and who she is talking to, and she signs/says(as best as she can) “friend,” which she does with her whole hands and not just her index fingers, and signs “bear” again.
I tell her that no, see Bear (who is actually one of her stuffed toys) is in bed behind her, not in the corner of the room, but she just giggles at me and signs/says “silly” and “mommy.”
I finally got fed up and asked her who Friend Bear was, and her response literally gave me chills because she doesn’t speak well yet, but she managed to say, very clearly and with the most serious face a 20-month-old can pull off, “No name, no name, shhhhhh.”
Well, now I am well and truly freaked out, so I tell her to ask “No Name Friend Bear” to go home because it is too late to play, and I did what any good loving mother would do.
I gave her a pacifier, went back to my room, turned off the monitor entirely, and hid under the covers in my room where my good and loving husband would protect me from nameless, invisible bears.
Danielle 89’s Baby Monitor Story
I was hanging out downstairs while my 5-year-old child slept upstairs in bed just like every night.
I have a camera baby monitor that is close circuit, does not even connect to the internet, basically only a camera and a hand held screen, doesn’t hook up to a cell or anything.
Anyway, last night, I was sitting on the couch watching TV when I noticed my kiddo moving around, so I started watching the monitor to see if I needed to run up and lay with him before he fully awoke.
Then it looked as if he was lifted an inch or so and tossed, so then I REALLY watched the monitor, thinking I didn’t see what I thought I saw.
Then it was like he got scooted up, then it was like something had him by his upper arms and pulling him up into a sitting position with his head back (like when you are trying to move someone that’s sleeping and they are limp).
I immediately ran upstairs and flipped the light on to find him sound asleep between the pillows, covered in sweat.
I called my husband in a panic because I was very freaked out, and he told me that I probably didn’t see it right or was imagining things and to not let it bother me.
I could not get my heart rate and breathing to calm after about 10 minutes of sitting in the bed next to my sleeping kid, so I ended up scooping him up and bringing him downstairs to sleep on the couch because I sure as hell wasn’t going to sleep up there and neither was he.
My husband said it was stupid for me to do that, but I was very uncomfortable being upstairs.
My son slept through everything, from being scooped up, carried downstairs, and placed on the bed, as well as me staying up for several more hours watching TV, not being able to sleep, and waking up when I got up for work this morning at 5 am.
I don’t even know what answers I am looking for; I’m freaked out and terrified of what I see.

Maria Clark
This is part of another answer I gave, but I thought it was appropriate!
When my eldest was 2, she was in a child’s ready bed on the floor of her bedroom, and she hated her cot, and her ‘big bed’ hadn’t arrived yet.
We were all in bed, and I had the baby monitor next to me when she started to giggle.
An older voice, sounded female said ‘shhh, you’ll wake them up’.
My initial reaction was that she had woken our lodger, who was also a friend of the family, so I rushed out of bed and went to her room…. very confused as she was on her own in the middle of the floor playing with her toys!
I managed to choke back my ‘scaredness’ and said to her it was time to get into bed. She smiled, got in, and closed her eyes, smiling.
I did not sleep for the rest of the night!
Next morning I went to get her up in the usual way – kissing and cuddling her til she awoke.
We left her bedroom, and she darted back as if she had forgotten something. She just looked into the corner of her room and ‘Bye-bye’.
Ann A’s Story
In 2008, my son was about 3 months old, and at about 2 am, I heard him cry,
I waited a minute to see if he was really waking up or if it was just a little whimper. A few minutes later, I heard him cry a second time.
This time, I started to get out of bed to tend to him when I heard my mother say, “It’s okay; I’ve got him.”
You wouldn’t think that out of the normal ordinarily; however, my mother passed away in 2000.
Space Admiral Steve Jones’ Story
A few years ago, I accompanied my brother, his wife, and their baby daughter to a beach house owned by a friend of ours.
The house is palatial: Four floors, seven bedrooms, a swimming pool, two kitchens, and even an elevator. We were staying for a week.
One night I agreed to watch my niece to give my brother and his wife a night off, a mid-vacation date night so they could head to a nice restaurant in the touristy spots, walk the beach, etc.
I put my niece to bed in one of the bedrooms and joined my friend and his wife by the pool, where we were hanging out, talking, and drinking a few beers.
I’m an overly cautious babysitter and kept one eye on the baby monitor, which has a camera as well as a microphone. It’s sensitive enough that you can even hear the baby turn over in her sleep or babble quietly in the crib.
As I was talking to my friend and his wife, I saw movement on the baby monitor: My friend’s mom was checking on my niece, I figured, and I saw her rest her hands on the railing of the crib and lean over to look at the baby.
I could hear the baby babbling. It occurred to me it was odd that Eileen, my friend’s mom, would wake the baby, but I thought nothing of it.
Then, my friend’s mom walked out of the sliding glass doors leading to the pool area.
I was confused. How did she get from a second-floor bedroom to the poolside deck in two or three seconds?
I asked her.
”Eileen, were you just checking on Lucy?”
“No,” she said. “Why?”
Eileen is an awesome mom and grandmother. She’d never lie to me, and she’s not the type to pull pranks, especially about something like this.
I bolted from my chair into the house, up the stairs, and into Lucy’s room. No one was there. Lucy was sound asleep.
One of the windows was open, and the curtain was blowing from a breeze coming off the beach. I walked over to the window and closed it, checked on my niece again, then closed the door.
My eyes were pretty much glued to the baby monitor until my brother and sister-in-law returned from their date night.
I still don’t know what I saw that night.
Theories On Creepy Baby Monitor Stories
Why we hear strange things:
Some baby monitors have been accurately accused of picking up radio signals and things like that.
So, the thought process is that if you hear a strange noise or a voice that doesn’t belong to your child, you’re actually just quickly picking up a different radio frequency.
Like when you are between channels on your radio.
Why we see strange things:
The infrared vision due to the night vision could cause some things to look distorted and otherwise creepy
If the baby monitor is near a window, it could be car headlights coming into the room, even if fences or objects like that obstruct the light fully.
Particles: Dust or baby powder could be causing orbs seen in these baby monitor cameras.
