Unusual Montana UFOs and Lights in the Night Sky
What would you do if your community kept experiencing strange occurrences, but acted like nothing happened? Is Montana a major HUB for UFO activity?
What’s up Bizarros? This week we dive into a listener submission about Hamilton Lights.
Hamilton, Montana UFO’s
Alexis from Hamilton, Montana, is sharing her story this week. For about 5 years Alexis has been seeing lights around her town.
This is a known phenomenon in the area. They call them the Hamilton lights or the Bitterroot lights.
She would often see the lights coming down from the Sapphire mountains and up to Blodgett Canyon. If it seems like a very matter-of-fact statement, well, it pretty much is.
It was such a common occurrence that she could narrow it down to a half-hour window.
Between 10:30 and 11 pm, she would go outside for a cigarette and she says there would 2 or 3 lights in the sky that would slowly go up the canyon and stop systematically above houses along the way.
“At first I was skeptical. I was looking at those consistent lights and thought, well maybe they are a drone, right?” Alexis said.
But what would a drone be doing out there night after night?
“But then things started to get weird. Black, unmarked helicopters started appearing at night and would fly into Blodgett canyon.” Alexis recalled.
They would remain there for hours before flying back to Hamilton.
Alexis also heard reports from people in town that the black helicopters would be following the lights into the sapphire mountains.
Alexis says lights occasionally change color, so some folks in town will offer their rebuttal to the UFO claims and say it’s just a plane or a satellite that she’s seeing, but Alexis still insists that whatever is flying in the sky is way too low.
She estimates they come about 500 – 1000 feet away from the ground.
Plus, she also has seen drones out and about around town, so she has the opportunity to make a comparison – which is important.
And, this phenomenon is also a known thing in the area.
It’s almost too known or accepted in town. She says most people just kind of ignore it or act like nothing is really happening. They’ve all become numb to it.
She likened it to how everyone around Skin-walker ranch just seems to accept its strangeness.
“Other than the consistent lights and things happening in the sky, there aren’t really any clear indicators of alien activity,” says Alexis.
At least, at first.
Beams of Light
Alexis also sees beams of light coming down from the clouds.
Sometimes they are flashing, almost like a flashlight turning off and on or lightning, and other times they are solid, opaque beams of light.
Sometimes they occur during thunderstorms, and other times without.
“There was a string of nights where there were thunderstorms and lightning in Hamilton but despite the storm, I noticed this one light standing out,” said Alexis.
It almost looked like a spotlight coming down from the clouds. She tried to take a video but she says her phone wasn’t able to capture it that well.
A few nights later, the lights were in the sky around the same time, but they were accompanied by the blinking beams of light.
It was an overcast night so the beams of light and the UFOs were getting lost in the clouds, but she started noticing a pattern.
“The lights would travel east of Hamilton to Grandstale, then south by the highway, west of her toward the river, then north again where the orb that seemed too leading the other lights in the sky was flashing then immediately would move a significant distance away from where it had just flashed,” said Alexis.
She watched for a while as they flew across the sky and made their way around town and then Alexis was completely caught off guard when she witnessed a blinding flash of light directly above her own house.
“I ran out onto my back porch and looked up into the dark clouds to see if I could catch a glimpse of what had caused the flash,” she said.
“A chill ran down my spine as my eyes tried to focus and adjust to see what could have possibly made that flash directly over my home, but I couldn’t see anything.”
A little dejected, Alexis went back inside her house. But as she looked out her window, she saw the glowing light in the sky.
She watched as the flying orb went over her neighbors’ house and did the same slow flash that it had done over her house.
“I was shocked as I watched this orb in the sky make its way down every single house on my street, stopping above each to perform the slow flash, and then move along,” said Alexis
The next day Alexis spoke with a few of her friends in town and they all witnessed it, too.
Her friends said they saw it go all the way down to Stevensville, which is 2 towns away from Hamilton – about 20 minutes away.
At that moment, Alexis understandably felt a wave of relief because, even though she was confident that she had witnessed something absolutely paranormal, she was starting to feel like she was going crazy.
More and more of the flying lights would come out and go down Blodgett canyon after the flashes in town.
She noted one particular night she saw a light in the sky that she assumed maybe was late because it flew across the sky into Blodgett in just a matter of a few seconds.
She counted it out and said it took 45 seconds to get from her house to the canyon.
Mysterious Blodgett Canyon
Blodgett Canyon is an important spot because her mother had an experience there.
One night when Alexis and her mother were camping, her mom saw a large rectangle flying in the sky that was hard to see because it was super reflective.
Like, it was reflecting the night sky on it – like a mirror. She’s not sure what part of the ship she was able to see – the bottom is her guess.
It is crazy to imagine this huge, rectangle alien spacecraft just floating overhead completely invisible almost.
But it came up from Blodgett Canyon and then started heading toward the Sapphire Mountains across the valley.
She thought maybe she was just exhausted and imagining things, but there were reports of other campers in the area seeing the same exact thing.
But that isn’t the only thing that is off about the canyon, Alexis says there are strange landmarks throughout the area.
The most bizarre one is a rock formation that makes a diamond shape hole through the top of one of the mountains on the Southside of Blodgett Canyon.
She says people in the area claim it’s naturally occurring, but she gets eerie feelings when she is hiking nearby.
So much so, that she gets the instinctive feeling that she shouldn’t even look at it. Like, she is being influenced to look away.
The last time she was hiking in that area she fought the tendency to avoid it and she said she heard a deep humming sound coming from that area of the mountains.
Her fiancé said he couldn’t hear the humming so, like her mother, she chalked it up to being tired or maybe she was just imagining it.
After they ate lunch on that trip she did some fishing but growing tired after the fish weren’t biting she packed up. While she was packing up her fishing gear, she felt the urge to look back over to the strange rock formation.
As she did, she noticed a single, low cloud float over and settle directly on top of the formation – blocking it for about 5 minutes. After that, the cloud immediately dissipated into nothing.
She admits that the area and mountains have strange weather patterns and the highs of the mountains and lows of the canyon can cause strange clouds and mist, but she has a hard time explaining to herself why only one small, but thick, cloud would go over to that rock formation and hole and then just disappear completely within a few minutes.
An End To The Lights?
Eventually, her family moved away from the area. So, for a long time, she was away from the orbs in the sky.
“But that all changed when I found my way back to the area,” Alexis said.
“One night I was driving back to the area from Washington with a friend. It was late at night – between 11 pm and midnight, and we saw a drone that we had never seen before.”
She says drone because it wasn’t that big, maybe the size of a small car, but it didn’t look man-made at all.
“It was like an “S” that was stretched, completely white, and had 3-foot prongs on the bottom that came out sort of like an umbrella,” she recalled.
Alexis’ friend who was driving slowed down, and they both just stared at this unusual craft flying directly over someone’s house.
Her friend asked her if she saw it, just to confirm. Looking back, she wished that she told her friend to pull over so she could have taken pictures or videos, but she was so freaked out in the moment that she stayed silent.
It probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway, because as soon as Alexis confirmed that she also saw the UFO, her friend slammed her foot on the gas and they sped away.
“That was the last time I ever saw that specific drone, but I still see lights in the sky whenever I’m in the area,” she says.
