The Pascagoula Abduction | 58

It is alien time once again – so you know Charlie is excited! This week, we travel back in time (and down south) to the Pascagoula River in Mississippi.

Known as one of the most famous abduction stories, this encounter follows Charlie and Calvin as a simple fishing trip turns into a crazy and life-changing night.

And while you may think the story is over after the initial abduction, it is truly just the beginning. Listen now!

This week we dive into the Pascagoula Abduction.

October 11th, 1973, Mississippi 

Two men, Charlie Hickson, 42, and Calvin Parker, 19, went fishing on the Pascagoula River to celebrate Calvin getting a job at the shipyard where Charlie worked. 

They left around 6 pm and with it being autumn the sun was setting as they were making their way to the river. The two men weren’t too concerned about the dark as there was going to be a full moon that night that would provide enough light.

Charlie was an avid fisher and was focused on fishing while Calvin was happy to be hanging out with a friend and relaxing. Perhaps that’s why he noticed a blue light out of the corner of his eye.  

At first, he thought it was the police. Perhaps he had parked illegally. Not a great way to begin his time in Pascagoula. 

But then….he turned around and the blue flights were behind them, and soon began circling them.  

The two men began to hear a zipping sound as well and before they knew it the blue lights were hovering over the river right in front of them. 

It was like two heavy spotlights coming out of a large metallic object. 

All the sounds that one would associate with being on a river, the running water, the birds singing their songs, crickets and frogs adding their melody to the orchestra of nature, but it was silent. Everything seemed muted because of this craft that was in front of them. 

The two terrified men slowly came to their feet when suddenly a blinding white light began to pour out from the ship that only broke to show the shadowy silhouettes that began to float towards the two men. 

Three humanoid beings with broad shoulders and small heads. Their wrinkly skin made it difficult for the two men to see if they had eyes, and as these creatures floated towards them with seemingly no legs they reached towards them with their claw-like hands. 

Charlie was the first to try and getaway. He was terrified, but he couldn’t move. He was completely frozen. 

He desperately tried to yell and warn Calvin but he couldn’t. He was completely paralyzed. Unable to move his mouth, his legs, anything. He was utterly helpless.

One of the beings went for Calvin while the other two focused on Charlie.

With their claw-like hands, they stung each man on the arm, completely numbing them, now they truly were paralyzed.

The creatures lifted the men and began to bring them into the craft. Charlie and Calvin were unable to make out any identifying marks of the ship. Their eyes were unable to adjust to the blinding white light. 

Charlie later said, “All of us moved like we were floating through the air. When I got in there they had me, you know, they just kind of had me there. There were no seats, no chain, they just moved me around. I couldn’t resist them. I just floated, felt no sensation, no pain. They kept me in that position a little while, then they’d raise me back up.”

The two men were separated in the craft, each propped on a metal table in the center of their individual rooms. 

Calvin noticed a small blue box, about 3-4 inches in size begging to circle him. Every so often it would pause and let out a few clicks.

Next, a 5-foot tall graylien came in and began examining. Without uttering any words the alien told Charlie to not be afraid.

Then the creatures that had brought Charlie into the room came back and lifted him from the table. The blinding white light began to fade and Charlie noticed a black spot getting closer.

To his relief, he began to recognize his surroundings. He was back at the river. He could see his fishing equipment, his tackle box and he began to feel like everything was going to be alright. 

Then he saw Calvin. He was standing like a statue with his arms outstretched towards the sky and a look of horror etched onto his face. 

As soon as the creatures put Charlie back on the ground his paralyzing numbness disappeared and he began to regain control over his own body. 

He rushed to Calvin, hearing the zipping sounds again and the two men were alone, in the soft glow of the full moon. 

A thought, but not of his own entered Charlie’s head. “We’re peaceful. We meant you no harm.” 

As Charlie shook Calvin, snapping him out of his trance, he began to yell in terror before collapsing to the ground. 

POST ABDUCTION

The two men stopped at a bar to process the events that had just happened to them. Initially, they thought about not telling anyone about what they had experienced, but soon they decided that they should share what happened to them. 

They tried calling the Air Force who dismissed them and told them to contact their local sheriff.  

The office that responded to them was amused and had a few deputies pick the men up and bring them back to the station. 

The men were interrogated and threatened with jail time before being brought back together with Sheriff Diamond to be interrogated by him.

In a ploy to get to the bottom of their story, Diamond had left a recording device in the room and left the two men alone, thinking they would break character and he would finally pierce the facade of their story. 

But the opposite happened, the two men didn’t break from their story. Not. One. Little. Bit.

Charlie said, “Jesus Christ, God have mercy, I thought I’d been through enough of Hell on this earth and now I’ve got to go through something like this. But they could have, you know, I guess they, well, they could have harmed us, son.

“They had us. They could have done anything to us, but they didn’t hurt me.”

Calvin, on the other hand, spoke mostly about his fear.

“I just want to cry right now,” he said. “What’s so damn bad about it is nobody’s going to believe us.”

The two men were sent home, but not before asking the Sheriff to not divulge any of this to anyone, but the story leaked.  

The next day the men were fielding calls from newspapers and eventually were sent to Keesler Air Force base, the one they initially contacted and were turned away from, for radiation testing. 

After they were cleared of the radiation they were returned back home where the Sherrif told them that the interviewing wasn’t likely over. 

UFO expert from Northwestern University Dr. Jay Allen Hynek was on his way to speak with Charlie and Calvin. For over 25 years he had been studying UFOs.

His suggestion was to interview them under hypnosis. At first, they were against the idea – thinking he would be messing with their mind.

He reassured them that he was only trying to “take them” back to that moment to discern extra details.

The process is known as time regression. Eventually, the men agreed.

First, was Charlie. 

Charlie was brought back to the alien abduction but didn’t last long – he was panicking and crying. 

Then it was Calvin’s turn.

Calvin’s experience was even more severe. He went into shock – and started trembling and crying and shouting for help.

Unfortunately, Dr. Hynek didn’t receive any extra details from the time regression experiment. Instead, it just gave the men additional trauma.

Dr. Hynek’s diagnosis was that the men were telling the truth and they experienced “something” traumatic – even if it wasn’t extraterrestrial. 

As time passed, Calvin stayed pretty quiet about things for a while. 

He did have a single panic attack that he attributed as a lingering effect from the alien abduction – but other than that he never had physical episodes. 

He wanted to ignore everything that happened and ended up joining the Marines.

On the other hand, Charlie went on talk shows, radio stations, and spoke to reporters. Overall, he discussed the event pretty often.

BUT THAT’S NOT THE END

Eventually, the publicity started to even take a toll on Charlie – so the following year in 1974 he decided to take a solo hunting trip near his home.

But, instead – he ended up running into some old friends. 

On his hunting trip, he saw the same exact craft in the trees.

As his eyes caught the silver craft and that same message went through his head again – that he was safe, they meant no harm, and he was special.

A month later, Charlie was awakened by the sound of a dog barking late at night.

He went outside to see what was happening. Outside, by the woods, he saw a dog.

The dog ran off as if spooked by something.

A moment later, the same voice in his head came in. It was like a radio switch.

This time, it asked him to tell the world “they mean no harm. That the world needs help and they will intervene before it’s too late, but we can’t understand yet.”

There was no evidence of the creatures or the craft that night, however.

A few months later, around Mother’s day that same year, Charlie was driving with his family in a packed car. 

He was with his wife, children, his daughter’s husband, and their baby.

As they were driving along Highway 67 and they noticed a star in the sky that seemed just a little bit brighter than the rest.

The craft circled the treeline and got closer and closer. It was significantly larger than the craft Charlie had experienced on the river and his hunting trip.

Charlie told his daughter’s husband to pull over, excited to see them again.

Just then, the object quickly descended to ground level and shot across in front of them over the highway.

Now, the car was stopped and the craft was silently hovering nearby.

Charlie was amazed – happy that he had more witnesses and finding an opportunity where he may be able to meet the aliens.

Remember – he has been having feelings of comfort and peace with these creatures the last two times. 

Charlie opened the door and tried to leave, but his wife pulled him, trying to get him back in the car.

As they were struggling to convince him to get in, and he was struggling to convince them now was the perfect chance to get closure, he heard the voice again in his head.

It said, “there will be another time and place. Go.” 

Charlie reluctantly got in the car and they left. The family was completely stunned. Due to Charlie’s prior experiences, they didn’t alert the local authorities.
