Listen now!
Can you share an imaginary friend with a family member? What if that family member had ties to the Dark Arts?
What’s up Bizarros? This week we dive into the listener submission about the Winged Demon.
A was told all her life about her family’s roots in dark magic or black magic. A was told to her by her aunt about her family’s connection to the dark arts, who said it came from her grandfather’s mother. She was a practitioner of the dark arts.
There are 2 prominent dark arts that her great-grandmother could have been practicing. These two forms of religion/rituals were common in Puerto Rico. They are Santeria and Brujeria.
This is from Belatina about Brujeria
”Brujeria is about building sacred altars, the practitioners use white or black magic to cast spells and use objects to summon ancient demons. Brujos and brujas use elements from nature, as well as oils and other elements to condition the health, beauty, family, love relations, fortune, and career of an individual.”
Santeria on the other hand is based more on mediumship and divination.
From a young age, A saw things that would confuse or frighten young children. She would see her father walking from behind him, she would see his shadow, only it wasn’t his shadow because it was independent of him, just following him.
Now A was only 4, and most parents would think these experiences to the imagination of their children. So of course he was a non-believer and ignored her warnings of dark figures following him.
When A turned 5 she experienced a big change. She moved in with her grandmother in Puerto Rico. Thankfully this shift brought some peace from the paranormal for A for some time.
However, people who are sensitive and have a family history in the dark arts are never able to really stay at peace. When A turned 7 is when things started to really start escalating. She began to see a spirit, not the friendly helpful type of ghost either. She described this spirit as appearing in the form of a young girl. She had long dark hair, dirty clothes, and menacing vibes that seemed to surround her
A was young and didn’t understand that seeing this entity was abnormal. She kept it to herself. But, she was not the only youth in her family that was seeing invisible people.
Her younger cousin Eddie started talking about an imaginary friend. A’s aunt was concerned about her son seeing something that was not there. Although there is an age where imaginary friends are rational and normal some families are still scared of kids having them. A’s family was one of them.
Because of her aunt’s fear of what might be plaguing Eddie mentally she brought him to a therapist. The therapist unearthed descriptions of his imaginary friend. What Eddie was seeing was remarkably similar to what A was seeing. When his aunt heard about the details of eddies friend she asked him to draw a picture of his “imaginary friend.”
Apparently, this entity has been haunting A’s family for generations because the aunt also had an encounter with this spirit. While she was pregnant with Eddie She saw the spirit come through the window.
A’s aunt shrieked and cried out“ I don’t want you here, you must leave” and at that, it fell to the floor like a ragdoll and faded away.
When A’s aunt came back from the appointment with Eddie she asked A if she had ever seen anything? And when A said yes and explained what she had been witnessing, the girl that her Eddie had drawn and her aunt’s mouth dropped and her face froze in horror.
So her family had come to the conclusion that they were cursed with an all-seeing Dome. Soon after this Eddie’s encounters started becoming more intense. He started to tell A that when he was playing in his room with his favorite toys, she would come. If he did not share there would be consequences.
He told A that “her mother would come if I don’t share” and that she would “get angry.”
Eddie did not go into further details about who, or what the mother was, and A herself did not witness the “mother”. A tried to leave it behind her and ignore the things she was seeing.
As A got older she went to school that she described as a jail and that there may have been some suicides on the property. The high school was also next to the local cemetery. So these schools were a hotbed for paranormal activity.
As the paranormal started becoming normal for A, she became numb she became, brushing things off like seeing a ghost, or hearing a disembodied voice.
She even got into ways to protect herself against these unwelcomed evils, by blessing her room. It helped as it all started to slow down.
However, when her great-grandmother died something terrible happened to A.
A was alone playing in her room, which is described as a hidden box behind a small little entryway than the rest of the room.
A described her experience, “In Puerto Rico, we have a lot of light problems so I was playing video games as a 16-year-old would do and the lights flickered on off on and then off again.”
As her lights flicker, she looks up. The first time they flicked she saw nothing when they came back on. They flicked off again and in the darkness, she heard something crawling on the ceiling. When the lights flicked back on for the last time she saw the thing that was crawling.
She described an extremely skeletal-like body, like that of someone who hasn’t eaten in months. She could see down to the bone. It was in the corner of the room. It was hanging on the walls with its large black claws.
A could also see black broken wings dangling from the creature’s back. The creature’s eyes were sunken, black, and filled with malice.
As the demon whispered A’s name and her room filled with the putrid smell of rotten flesh.
Then the light flickered off and on again. At that moment, it was like nothing had ever happened. The creature was gone.
“I was terrified and started to cry and have a panic attack,” A said.
She was so scared she was taken to the hospital. After this paranormal encounter, she would have panic attacks sporadically. The winged demon had left an unforgettable mark on her.
She has only told two people about this because it’s terrifying, she also works the night shift, so that doesn’t help.
For now, A hasn’t seen anything else, and hopefully, it will stay that way.
