The Phantom Time Conspiracy
We went full conspiracy mode and tackled the Phantom Time Hypothesis, the genuinely wild theory that the Holy Roman Emperor Otto III conspired with Pope Sylvester II and the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII to fabricate nearly 300 years of history, meaning we’re not actually living in 2026, but somewhere closer to 1729.
We broke down the evidence people point to, from the gap between the Julian and Gregorian calendars to a suspicious lack of archaeological layers from that time period, and got into whether legendary figures like Charlemagne and Ragnar Lothbrok were real men exaggerated into myth, or were invented outright to pad out a fake timeline so a few power-hungry rulers could claim they ruled during the symbolically important year 1000.
We also couldn’t resist a detour into the story of Pope Sylvester II allegedly selling his soul to the devil for a magical answering head and a guaranteed papacy, which honestly might be the most believable part of this whole conspiracy.
